Max Munson is an American certified Wim Hof Method Instructor, swim coach, author, competitive swimmer, ice swimmer, and entrepreneur in Prague, Czech Republic. He is married with two children.

Born and raised in Chicago and a graduate of Arizona State University, Max moved to Prague in 1992 where he opened his first of seven restaurants, a brewing company, and an import-export firm.

In 2017 he returned to competitive swimming as a Masters swimmer, and soon added on outdoor swimming competitions and ice swimming, competing in the Ice Swimming World Championships in Glogow, Poland, in early 2022.

In 2021 he wrote Diving Back In, memoir detailing the joy and satisfaction we can find in life when we get out of our comfort zone.

He began exploring the cold and the Wim Hof Method over the last few years and became a certified Wim Hof Method Instructor in 2022, instructing groups and individuals in various locations in the Czech Republic, including his restaurant in the centre of Prague.

Max ON "the method":

Through Wim's breathing techniques, we not only improve our lung capacity and endurance, we also tap into our autonomous nervous system and cleanse our blood, working out our cardiovascular system all the while. And then, with time, we learn to go deeper into ourselves.

It is by entering the cold that we learn to face our fears regularly, and stay comfortable and under control while handling them. Gradual and regular cold exposure helps to get us into the habit of facing stressful situations head on rather than putting them off or avoiding them. And physically the cold exposure strengthens our immune system while giving us a jolt of happy hormones, energy, clarity, and focus.

Through our Mindset, the third pillar of the WHM, we fine-tune our approach to the method and to many aspects of life as we confront head-on our internal dialogues. We learn to manage those dialogues consciously and take more control over our lives.

I look forward to teaching all the aspects of the WHM along with special exercises to improve our body intelligence, showing the way to a simple and effective daily practice that indeed makes us stronger, healthier and happier!
